It's almost at an end

photobooth

It's crazy how quickly the summer has passed. I've only got 1.5 weeks left of the Oasis (and 3 events to plan/execute). It's also been a bit busy lately, since I managed to squeeze an Edmonton trip into the mix. Jesse and Sheleena are coming over from Saturday nite to Sunday, and we're excited to have them here. It does mean that I have to miss Becky's party. Sorry!

I was pleased to find a photobooth in West Ed when we were shopping, and took the opportunity to show off a few of my recent purchases. I also love the backlit effect of the no-backdrop-background, I'm a big fan. Seriously.

This is how the Edmonton trip went:
- Pick up Lynnea, drive a bit, pick up Xav and Cai
- Shenanigans in the auto while driving for 5 hours
- Picked up groceries, went to C&E's, made spaghetti dinner
- Snuck off to see Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2
- Slept, woke up around 10am
- headed to the mall around noon, finished shopping around 6 or so. Found this fabulous vest & zany American Apparel outift
- Hit the Fringe
- Watched Sydney White back at C&E's, after a big kerfuffle about a scratched DVD we rented
- Slept, woke up, breakfasted, drove the 5 hours home

And 1 hour later I was at work. Busy but fun! It was great to spend a bit of time with C&E and Maria, to see Maria's new workplace. We also delivered a massive red vase with bamboo stalks for her office. Brilliant.

And now I'm off to clean & prepare some lasagne for tomorrow. Mmm.

The visit

Mom and Dad were up this weekend, and it was a lovely relaxing/invigorating time for all of us. We don't get to see them often, so that in itself was a treat. Dad had fun puttering around and fixing a few things up: the pool table at the Oasis, the siding on our house, burying the compost, setting up my wardrobe. Mom is more of the chatting-discussing-reading type, but was happy to help me with some yard work, and brought some flowers to add to our gardens. We watched a few movies with Dad, played some speed scrabble won by Mom, and we two ladies were thoroughly trumped by the men in a game of Canasta. We ate out at the Golden Dragon, visited La Glace, shopped a bit, I had a job interview (sort of), and we went on several nice walks. Jeremie took Mom and Dad to some gardens 45 minutes out of town while I worked on Saturday afternoon. All in all, it was a wonderful visit. Thanks Mom and Dad!

This and that

Oasis has been good this week, a decent amount of kids have been coming. We watched Night at the Museum on Tuesday. It was good, despite the fact that I didn't get to see that much of it between walking back & forth between rooms & hanging out with the youth not watching the movie.

My fingernails are too long, and are interfering with my typing. Bah.

I'm also trying to finish the DVD from the Hanson tour in November, but am having major issues with Pinnacle Studio. It keeps crashing, which doesn't let me get much done. Frustrating.

Tomorrow I'll be cleaning Jana's in the AM, getting groceries & shopping in the PM.

That's all from my short & descriptiveless news bulletin.

August = new post

Jeremie and I spent last weekend in Horseshoe Bay, a ferry's ride across from Vancouver. It took us a day to drive to Vernon, where we spent the night with J's family, before driving another day to Horseshoe Bay. We met up with Dan & Candace, and had a really good time. We went kyaking, attended a parade & fireworks, watched Dan compete in a firefighters' competition, and spent some time just chilling. I love the coziness of their place, and the skylights. I think we need to add some skylights to our home.

The Oasis has been picking up this week, we had 16 youth on both Tuesday and Wendesday, which is up from 9 or 10. I spent most of Monday planning the August events with Jeremy, making and posting posters, printing photos, creating the events on Facebook and other miscelaneous stuff for the Oasis. I'm enjoying the job, but at the same time am glad it's a summer job. I don't think I could keep up with the enthusiasm/energy required for it in the long haul.

I took quite a break from doing contract site work, but the Duecks have asked me to do their site, and I've decided to go ahead since I'm only working half-time at the Oasis. I'm looking forward to seeing the site done, and it should be a big improvement on what they currently have: more user-friendly, more information, more photos. Just generally more, by the sound of it!

A couple of weeks ago we had a bunch of the Sexsmith gang over for a fire in our backyard, hence the photo. It was fun since we haven't had much company of late. The Snip parents are coming up the weekend after this coming one, and the Bouliannes are coming up closer to the end of August, so I think we'll have enough company to keep us happy in the near future. It's always great to have family over.

On a Hanson tour update, I bought tickets for both shows for Maria and I, and Erika's coming to the Edmonton show with us. I think Cor, Korp, and Jenna are coming to the Edmonton show too, so it should be a blast! Hooray for Hanson tour!
