And life rolls on

A lot has been going on since March. We just bought a house, and take possession in a week. J's mom is coming down for the weekend to help me paint, and I'm really excited for that. Hooray for fresh colors! And for space! I'm really excited about our new home. It has everything we wanted - a bigger dining room for entertaining, a dish washer, a garage, and a nice yard. It's close to the Deerfoot (good for getting to work), and feels great when you walk in. I'm really looking forward to moving our stuff in and getting settled. Plus, I get my own office/hobby room again. It'll be great to have somewhere to store/use all my sewing, painting, reading, computer stuff without being in the curious hands of a 2 year old.

Cade is now 2. He's grown up so much, and is coming home with new words every day. He surprises me sometimes, like when he asked for batteries for his toy or how he knew the word 'pasta' (since I always call them noodles when talking to him). We were in the car the other day and I asked what kind of music he wanted. He said 'Hanson'. That's my boy! We've taken him on a lot of outings in the last few months: the zoo, garage sales, the Calgary tower, a sleepover at a friend's house, swimming and the library. I really like taking him out - it's cool to see what he's interested in. He's big into skateboards, balls of any sort, lego, and ice cream.

My job is going really well, and I'm still enjoying it a lot. I've learned a ton, and am getting some mad web conversion skills. I'm glad to add to my skillset and know I'm producing more useful sites for people. Plus, the sites we've done lately look awesome. Seriously.

Oh, and I read this great book the other day - the Oracle of Stamboul, by Michael David Lukas. It's a novel about a young girl, super smart, who gets thrown into the centre of politics in the declining Ottoman empire. What I like best about it is that it's told in such a real, feeling way instead of being dry history. Plus there are no awkward sex/romantic scenes, which is nice for a change. Refreshing. I definitely recommend this one!

Jer went to Maker Faire with work this year, and had a blast. He's heading out for another one shortly. It's pretty sweet that you can have a job where you get to go to a fun conference instead of a dry one!

Okay, I'm out to watch a movie with my man. Ciao!

Wow, it's been awhile.

Things have been getting crazier here by the day. In a good way. Our house is officially sold, and the new owners take posession on the 25th. This means that we get to take a weekend sometime soon to drive back to the old homestead to get our things and drive them down to a storage locker.

Mom and Dad are visiting for the weekend, which is pretty cool. They watched Cade for us last night so J and I could head out for a date night. We went to see The Adjustment Bureau, but it was sold out. We ened up watching Just Go With It, and it was really funny. And strangely clean for an Adam Sandler film. Two thumbs up.

In the vein of child-moment sharing, Cade was had a good moment the other night. He's just learning a few words, and I explained that he had peas in his stir fry. He spent the next 15 minutes finding every pea to pick out of the stir fry and said 'pea' for every one. He then pretended to eat them - bringing them up to his mouth, opening/closing, saying 'mmm', and putting the pea back down. Oh, the funny things kids do.

Oh yeah, and the design to the left is one I did a few months back for a massage group site. I'm happy with how it looks :)

Anyway, the 'rents will be here any minute. Oh, speak of the devil!

Calgary at night

This evening was good. Unusual, but good. We had french toast and some fabulous bacon for dinner. I loved it. Cade seemed really tired, so I tried to put him to bed. An hour later he was still having none of it, so I lay down with him in my bed. We both fell asleep until 1am.

I'd meant to get groceries this evening, because we're pretty much out of everything Cade will eat for breakfast - bread, milk, yogurt, oranges. So I figured, why let 1am stop me?

When I went out to my car, the moon was amazing. It was hidden by a cloud, and had this rainbowey light around it. The whole area of sky around the moon was an incredibly bright, deep blue, and covered by scattered clouds. The rabbit that lives in our backyard went bounding through the snow. Mystical and lovely.

It felt like sneaking out of the house to go shopping in the middle of the night. I got to our local 24-hour grocery store to find I pretty much had the place to myself: there were only two other shoppers. I cranked the Kooks' "Inside In/Inside Out" and rocked out while I shopped. Fabulous night.

The recentness

I haven't posted since the new year. Oops!

First of all, we had a great time over the new year. We headed down to my parent's place for 4 days, and spent most of the time visiting, catching up on sleep, and eating. Oh, and we opened presents and did the whole Christmas-ey thing too. We took Cade to a pool I'd gone to as a kid, and was it ever a blast from the past. I had so many vague memories of the place that it was pretty cool to go there again. I ran into a few people I knew in highschool, and it was good to catch up. Cade had a really good time at Grandma and Grandpa's place, and really liked having extra people to play with. He got a Cade-sized chair for Christmas, and spent the first ten minutes after he opened it going in and out and climbing around it. It was pretty fun to watch.

Since then I've had a week of work, and now a Saturday off. Work is still going really well. It's nice to have a job I enjoy, and people I like to work with Two thumbs up for that. I also finally got a haircut, since I'd been wanting one for a good month or so. It's much tidier. I'm not sure if I'm a huge fan of it or not, but it looks pretty good.

And now I'm off to add a few things to my website, as long as Cade stays happy with watching Yo Gabba Gabba while I do so. We're currently watching one of his favorite episodes - Super Mr Superhero. Go Starsky!
