I thought that after the 2 pages of happy-birthdays on Facebook, maybe I should fill you in on what happened (all 3 people who read my blog;) - plus, it's fun to talk about.
The attached photo was taken shortly after my first birthday party - the murder mystery luau. I was unfortunate enough to have forgot my camera (sounds so unlike me!) and so am still waiting for the more luau-ey photos. It turned out that Mr Phineas T Wingate (brewer and cat fiend extraordinare) was murdered - and we were all suspects. We met over a massive fondue to find out who murdered him, and why. I was Nellie Couche, a young (not so) innocent. Dear J was the butler (and for once, the butler wasn't the murderer!). It was a smashing time, full of deep-fried foods and laughter. Thaks Britt, for hosting and planning!
A day before the luau (which you can only invite 8 guests to), Lindy from J's work called to see what we were doing for my birthday! She organized the Tucker gang, and we all met on Saturday for Earls dinner (I got to wear a boa, thanks Lindy) and a viewing of Mr Bean's Holiday.
Jeremie is still working on my present, so he's been getting pieces in the mail every so often and keeps apologizing that it's late. But hey - while I wait, he managed to come up with a CD, some flowers, and a new memory card for my digicam. And that just in time for my trip!
Thanks to all who sent lovely birthday wishes and cards (Erika and Mom, I just got your cards today). It's been one great week!

Thanksgiving!
I'm so excited for the family to come for thanksgiving - I don't' have to wait too much longer! Mom said they'd be in around 2 or 3 am (it's a long drive, about 12 hours) and so I have time to kill!
This photo is from tonight's youth event, Bigger and Better. Where we go to your door, and ask you if you'll trade us for something bigger or better than what we've got. And keep going until time's up! I thought we would for sure win when we went toothpick > ceiling fan > barbecue > deck chairs > twin bed frames. But no - we were foiled by the group who traded their couch for a car! It's pure and utter craziness, that's what it is.
Mom, Dad, Erika and Chuck are driving up tonight and staying until Monday. It will be so good to see everyone again! I haven't seen Mom and Dad in at least 4-5 months, and it'll be their first time seeing our new home.
We're also planning a huge turkey dinner with the works: gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, pickled carrots, homemade cranberry sauce, salad, and pie! It's a group effort, with everyone bringing something. And oh, am I looking forward to that gravy!
I received a package couriered to us in J's name. I opened it, paused while reading the manifest, and stopped. My birthday is next week, and I suspect that it might be something for me! I love surprises too much to ruin it.
Speaking of my birthday... next week I turn 27. It's funny how fast the time flies! Britt and I have been scheming together to come up with something good, at least since the spa party we were at two nights ago. And there's only 26 days until I start the trek to California with some buddies for 5 Hanson concerts!

Nerd bowling and other repasts
This is a sample of our attempted nerdishness for the youth group's nerd bowling. I really did look nerdy!
Mom will also be pleased to note I have reverted to my childhood tea-grannyishness: I'm realy enjoying my tea with milk in the morning. And I might even have stood over the heat register in my pajamas the other morning. I love the way they billow out, and it's so nice and warm... some joys of childhood just don't age.

California Dreamin'
Something exciting has come up.
It just so happens I know a few Hanson fans who needed a fourth in their car for a nice little road trip down to California in November. We're planning on hitting up the last 5 shows of Hanson's The Walk tour, and I'm super excited!
We'll be gone for a week and a half, and catch shows in Anaheim, San Diego, San Fransisco, LA, and Vegas before heading home - and hopefully do a little site-seeing (maybe beach combing?) while we're down there.
The Walk tour is also trying to raise some money to help out some Africans: if you buy a pair of Toms shoes, a pair gets sent to a kid in Africa: all proceeds from the sale of the single Great Divide go to work with a Soweto hospital dealing in mother-child aids transmission, and the boys are also doing short walks (barefoot) before each concert to help raise awareness. I'm guessing it's awareness that some people don't have shoes, which leads to... we have a lot of stuff, please share it. At least that's my take on the walks.
So it should be a good time: I'm already planning on a new battery for my camera :)

Road trip!
J and I took a little road trip last Sunday to visit Tumbler Ridge - there was a competition at the skatepark. So we loaded up the car with skateboards, skate kids, helmets, and snacks, and headed out.
On the way there we passed what we call 'graffiti mountain'. This rock face is crumbling, and full of people's bombs & tags. Not many are well done, but it's still fun.
We also got to visit Steve & Taeya and hang out for a bit, since they were in the area as well!
It was raining as we drove to TR, but the sky cleared up just in time for the competition. None of our boys placed, but they had a good time & enjoyed the chance to test out a new park. Hooray!
Last night we had Jer & Britt over for a big ol' pasta dinner. There was an open house next door, and we went to check it out after eating - anybody want a fully renoed home? It's going for something like $275,000 and is pretty nicely redone . But you'd have to want to be our neighbor too ;)
We also watched Blades of Glory (Will Ferrell, the Napoleon Dynamite guy take on figure skating). It had some funny parts, but I wouldn't exactly reccommend it to anyone - too much *blech* stuff in it. Boo.
Oh, and... Hanson is touring again! Yay! The downside is that the closest stop to us would be either LA or Tulsa (each roughly 1 day & 8 hour drive by Google). Aah, maybe next tour...
